Program Note
A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional twentieth century French city brings to life a collection of stories published in The French Dispatch Magazine. The film is inspired by Wes Anderson’s love of The New Yorker, and some characters and events in the film are based on real-life figures from the magazine’s history. It boasts a star-studded cast, including Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson. The French Dispatch premiered in competition at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
