Makino Shozo is called the father of Japanese cinema. He worked as a director, producer, and creator in the developing period of Japanese cinema. Shozo revitalized the Kyoto period drama and raised Onoe Matsunosuke, hte ex-Kabuki actor, as the super star of Japanese cinema. Shozo made 60 to 80 films per year with Matsunosuke and most of these films received box office success. Although Matsunosuku was in more than 1000 movies in his life time， only several of them are remained. This film is the oldest work of Shozo nad Matsunosuk’s callaborations nad the most popular classic in Japan. It is also recorded as the first film that deals with ‘Chushinkura’. Matsunosuke’s Chushinkura will provide an important chance to understand Japanese cinema at the end of Meiji period in which film was called ‘moving pictures.’
