Program Note
Mario Suarez is a gifted director whose his wife, Laura, has left him. To overcome his loss, he starts making a film about the tango. He cases the beautiful dancer Elena Flores, who also happens to be the mistress of the film′s main investor, Angelo Larroca. Mario′s film depicts riveting dance sequences, unrequited love, a grim and compelling enactment of the military repression and the great wave of European immigrants. As rehearsals get underway, Mario and Elena find themselves involved in a dangerous love affair. At an important rehearsal, Mario is confronted by one of Angelo′s thugs, and he soon finds that his film has become a mirror of his own life.
