Program Note
The Polish Bride is a psychological drama about the blossoming love between a farmer from Groningen and a Polish woman. Anna has been lured to Holland by two men who want her to work in a brothel. She escapes and is discovered by a farmer on his land. She is cared for by the uncommunicative farmer who is willing to pay for her trip back to Poland. When she decides to stay and work for her way back home, they find themselves slowly growing closer together. The farmer tries to instill the beauty of the Groningen highlands and his love for them into the new lodger.
Director
Karim Traidia
Karim Traidia was born in Algeria but has resided in Holland for many years. He graduated form the Dutch Film Academy. He has directed several short films and documentaries. In 1996 he published his first book and is currently working on a documentary about Algerians in exile in France. The Polish Bride is his first feature film.
