Program Note
Joe is a recovering alcoholic who runs the worst football team in Glasgow. Sarah is a health visitor. They literally run into eachother when Sarah comes to Joe′s neighborhood to do a health check. The two bicker and banter over everything but soon their relationship takes a turn towards romance. But their relationship must endure many obstacles in the form of troubled friends, a debt-collecting drug dealer and a turn of events that threatens their relationship. A love story full of humour, passion and danger, My Name is Joe portrays the struggles of people fighting to overcome the harsh conditions of their lives.

Loach was born in 1936 in Britian. He studied law at Oxford from 1957 to 1960. In 1963, he entered BBC and made a number of dramas for TV. He became a pioneer of the neo-realist movement in British cinema in the 60s.
