Program Note
Danila Bagrov returns to his native town after two years in the Army. But life in the Russian provinces no longer suits him and he decides to move to St. Petersburg where his elder brother recently started to prosper. Danila finds his brother. But his brother appears to be a professional killer.

Alexei Balabanov
Alexei Balabanov was born in Sverdlovsk, the capital of the Urals. Graduated from the Foreign Languages College in Gorky. After two years in Soviet Air Force he worked as a first assistant director of documentaries in Sverdiovsk. In 1990, he moved to St. Petersburg where directed his first feature film.
