Program Note
A 13-year old small-town soccer prodigy from Uruguay gets the chance of his life to follow his dreams and get his humble family out of poverty. Propelled into youth pro soccer, he is soon blinded by life in the fast track and gets into collision course with his heart-of-gold janitor dad. Soon, Tito becomes the national star as a soccer prodigy, but it takes an accident to bring him down to earth and recognize what is really important in life. Based on the book Mi Mundial, a coming-of-age Latin American bestseller by former Uruguayan soccer player, Daniel Baldi, Home Team shows a boy’s rise and fall, and the lesson he learns with authenticity. The film tells a classic theme of overcoming the obstacles of life and finding the meaning of life in love of family and neighbor, of embracing the surroundings as “my world.” Home Team was released in Uruguay in last June and made a box office hit.
