Program Note
After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his sister’s experiences in the demonic woods of the Blair Witch, James and a group of friends head to the forest in search of his lost sibling. When Blair Witch Project was premiered at Sundance in 1999, it became one of the most sensational films because of its idea of having horror in the form of fake documentary. It went on to be a massive commercial success. Some audiences were shocked and terrified because they actually believed that the documentary was real. Now, Blair Witch has come back to haunt the audience once more. Nobody will think it is real any more, but it is as shocking and terrifying as the original Blair Witch Project. Under the faux-title of The Woods, this new project was kept secret that it actually was the sequel of Blair Witch Project until only a month before its release in September.
Director
Director
Adam WINGARD
Wingard started filmmaking at age 19, directing the slasher film Home Sick (2007). But it was Pop Skull (2007) that garnered him attention. The film premiered at the prestigious Rome Film Festival and then shown at the AFI Film Festival. His dark and sometimes abrasive directing and editing style has been compared to David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky, and Tsukamoto Shinya. His films include You’re Next (2011) and The Guest (2014)
