Although watching Thai films is kind of rare experience in Korea, <b>Where is Tong?</b> does not seem unfamiliar at all. Perhaps it is because of the universality of the film medium itself, which enables viewers to cross national boundaries. Incorporating many different genres, <b>Where is Tong?</b> moves swiftly and maximizes the aforementioned ability of film to persuade and to entertain. Five boys living in the countryside set out on a trip to Bangkok. The only pleasure for these boys in their hometown was making fun of Pon, the old woman whom they imagine to be an evil, man-eating spirit, and playing around on the railway tracks. When Pon saves their lives one day, they set out on their journey to make amends for their previous behavior and to find the woman′s long-lost son. The story gets complicated when the young men start to help a group of children and a city gang gets involved. Buddhist sculptures and a serial killer also enter the picture. The universality of coming-of-age combines nicely with the film′s Thai specificities. (Kang So-Won)
