Program Note
For the Gala Presentation this year, we are proud to present for the first time Color of Asia - Masters, a joint project among BIFF, Youku (China’s largest streaming site) and Heyi Pictures Inc.. Participating in this project are directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul from Thailand, Naomi Kawase from Japan, Wang Xiaoshuai from China and Im Sang-soo from Korea, joined by four new directors who will be introduced in Color of Asia - Newcomers in the Wide Angle Section.
Shorts presented this year include Weerasethakul’s Vapour, a lyrical piece absent of any dialogue; Naomi Kawase’s Lies, about the life and artistic views of a designer through an interview that′s replete with poetic dialogue; Wang Xiaoshuai’s The Cornfields, a subdued story about a young boy and his grandmother who are left alone in a small village; and Im Sang-soo′s The Vampire Lives Next Door, a strange story about a drowned girl in a mortuary and a vampire who lives there. Color of Asia - Masters will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy the unique artistic style and visions of each of renowned filmmaker in one place.(Dosin PAK)
