During his career as a filmmaker Shin Sang-Ok showed his talent with a strong box-office power, making films of many different genres; from historical films to musicals. <b>One Thousand Year Old Fox</b> is a horror film, a rare genre in Korean cinema. It is about a couple; their love, hate, and tragic outcomes. When General Kim of the Shilla dynasty returns home after victory over the foreign intruders, the queen tries to seduce him. Deeply in love with his wife Yeo-Hwa, he resists but he is helpless when the queen kills his wife. Yeo-Hwa dies in a bog, where the spirit of a one-thousand-year-old fox lies waiting for the body of a vengeful woman. The fox returns with the body of Yeo-Hwa, seeking revenge. In order to protect the royal family and resuscitate his wife, general Kim must fight both the spirit of thousand-year-old fox and the royal army. However, the tragic outcome is pre-destined. Representative of an ′Asian horror film′, the film avoids direct depiction of the ghost, but rather relies on images of water and narration to create its vision of horror.
