Yann studies literature at a French provincial university. One day, he falls under the spell of the name of an author: Marguerite Duras. He avidly reads everything he can lay his hands on. For five years he writes her several letters a day. When they meet for the first time in the beach town of Trouville, it is as if they′d known each other forever, a shocking realization that blocks out everything else- the difference in age, Yann′s nervousness and his disillusionment with life. She can′t get over the fact that she′s the one he′s chosen. It′s marvelous, yet unbearable. They live their love in the present. Their words become books, international bestsellers. Josee Dayan
Josee Dayan has directed extensively for both film and television and was awarded the Nymphe of Honor for career achievement at the 1999 Monaco festival. Her taste for literary masterpieces has led her to adapt such French classics as <b>Les Miserables</b> and <b>Le Comte de Monte Cristo</b> as well as biographical depictions of legendary lives including <b>Honore de Balzac</b> and <b>Simone de Beauvoir</b> . Her other films are <b>Simone de Beauvoir</b> (1980) and <b>Plein Fer</b> (1990).
