Program Note
Yann studies literature at a French provincial university. One day, he falls under the spell of the name of an author: Marguerite Duras. He avidly reads everything he can lay his hands on. For five years he writes her several letters a day. When they meet for the first time in the beach town of Trouville, it is as if they′d known each other forever, a shocking realization that blocks out everything else- the difference in age, Yann′s nervousness and his disillusionment with life. She can′t get over the fact that she′s the one he′s chosen. It′s marvelous, yet unbearable. They live their love in the present. Their words become books, international bestsellers. While waiting for the fateful hour, they laugh, they cry, they talk, they love and they write. Cet Amour-La is filled with laughter and
tears, a moving story we can all relate to, a romantic adventure like no other.
