Program Note
A new film by the director of My Secret Cache and Adrenalin Drive, Waterboys is a very entertaining film about a group of high school boys who try out as a synchronized swimming team. Based on a true story, the film? main characters are ordinary high school students. The boys, who became interested in swimming only because of the pretty instructor,
accidentally join the synchronized swimming team. One may say that their motives are not genuine. However, to them, the motives are no longer important. All summer long, the boys learn to swim from a dolphin trainer, and finally show off their skills at the hall. Through this achievement, the boys learn and mature. The film? finale is filled with exciting scenes which are sure to captivate the audience. Naoto Takenaka stars as the funny dolphin trainer. A delightful comedy which shows that Shinobu Yaguchi has safely landed in the forefront of Japan? film industry. (Kwon Yong-Min)
