A family engages in prostitution in the adult entertainment district. A woman is found dead in a toilet and Nelson decides to sell his young daughter Sonia to avoid having to pay off his debt. The night of the sale in question approaches while Carla continues desperately to save her half-sister despite conflict with the stepmother. The director’s trademark, overlapping of individual dialogs within a single shot and the shameful secrets of a family, are evident in this film. The rhythmical editing of the bar scene where ‘business’ begins with the start of a song is noteworthy. Images are tailored to the rhythm of the music while camera quickly follows the movement of characters to create Canijo’s unique busy mood. (RHEE, Soue-won)
