Michael, a professor who wants to prove that Shakespeare was originally from Spain, comes with his wife Helene to stay in a convent with a long history. Subtle nuances can be detected between Michael and Piedade, who is helping him with his research, while Baltar, a local man who is suggestive of Lucifer, keeps wooing Helene. Two characters each form a couple the moment they set foot in the unfamiliar world of the convent and create tension. Elements of the fantastic genre, such as the forest as a place of mystery, good and evil, and instinct, coupled with the ear-piercing sounds of string instruments contribute to form a unique atmosphere.
