Program Note
A visually stunning reflection on lustful desire, Yonfan’s [Colour Blossoms] tells the story of Meili, a realtor, who visits a mansion after being asked to handle its sale. There, she meets the mysterious Madame Umeki, and finds herself caught up in irresistible physical desires that transcend time and space. Geiko Matsuzaka from Japan, Teresa Chung from Hong Kong, and Ha Risoo from Korea explore a dreamy world of sex and passion. Yonfan’s former films were always sensitive to sexual energy yet never explicit. This film is an exception in that sense. He explores the physical pleasure more than sensibility of emotions. Perhaps that is the reason the film turned out more experimental and provocative than ever. (CHO Young-jung)
