Program Note
[Promising Miss Bowie] is a happy adventure in which the titular character, Miss Bowie, searches forher long lost love and family. While Miss Bowie doggedly earns big money and lives a satisfactory life, a newly orphaned niece suddenly appears on her doorstep. To make matters worse, her first love suddenly reappears after twenty years. Bowie’s frozen heart slowly opens up yet encounters unexpected dilemmas. Despite some rather sad plot developments, the film maintains a visual beauty that prevents it from becoming maudlin. [Promising Miss Bowie ]is a lovely and humorous story that possesses a touching understanding of the lonely heart of a successful middle-aged woman who has fought the double standard against woman and her new family experience with her niece.
