Program Note
This, Yonfan’s homage to Alfred Hitchcock, blends elements from 1950s classics such as Rear [Window and To Catch a Thief] with general themes from Vertigo. The director also borrows mises-en-scene from Michelangelo Antonioni’s [Blow Up] and other suspense films of the time, including [Charade]. Yonfan’s love of cinema is apparent throughout the film. An unidentified femme fatale and a photographer embark on a romantic adventure surrounding a mysterious marble called ‘secret.’ As danger mounts, they realize they are becoming attracted to one another, but soon doubts about betrayal trouble their budding relationship.
