Program Note
It is 1995. In Bosnia an engineering unit cleans mine fields on the borderlands. They doubt one other yet spending their days without doing much after the end of the Balkan War. Even though there is not any enemy visible, each of the soldiers carries his own burden of war experiences and traumas. Some are self-destructive; some, happy to be alive. Some, with blood stains on their hands try to hide. A girl looking for her father arrives at the border. This film does not seek to deliver the terror of the civil war or historical drama of Bosnia. What is more important is that it gazes at the fact that the horrors of war cannot be easily conveyed and that the experience of destruction cannot but lurk in the consciousness. The enemy is not outside but inside. It is their destructive desires. (LEE Sang-yong)
