Program Note
A documentary on Kurdish mothers who have lost their own flesh and blood. In this small Kurdistan village, men or children are hardly seen, for the fathers, husbands or grownup sons were mostly taken to battlefields or slaughtered. Soundless wailing of the mothers waiting even the beloved ones remains penetrates the village. The film, nevertheless, focuses on their life of waiting, not their sorrow. Waiting is a constant remembrance and a preservation of history, making the despair more profound. The genuine tragedy of a Kurdish mother who lost her son is to bury the future in history and live in the present. (CHO Young-jung)
