Program Note
The great Kurdish musician Mamo and his sons are on their way to Arbil in Iraq for a public performance following the collapse of the Saddam Hussein Regime. However their travels do not go smoothly. The suffering that they have endure in the border zones around Iran, Iraq, and Turkey show the nomadic life of the Kurds, who perpetually live on the borderline between life and death. Maintaining sense of humor, Ghobadi talks about the music and tradition of the Kurds, and the transcendental existence that gives them the power to overcome troubles. A mysterious woman, Papoola, who has the voice to move the dead and helps Mamo, is the symbol of salvation in the heart of the Kurds. (KIM Ji-seok)
