The title is a quotation from the Czech national anthem, ironic in view of the setting ? in one of the most tragic times in Czechoslovakian history. The script was inspired by the personal experiences of its author Tereza Bouckova, the daughter of prominent writer and dissident Pavel Kohout. The movie gradually involves Martha’s whole family in the dissident movement. Then Martha meets Jan Pavel, a character based on Vaclav Havel, the former President of the Czech Republic. It is the first Czech film that authentically describes the origin of Charter 77. (Jay JEON)
