Program Note
Soomi, who recently returned from her studies in France, retains a haunting memory; she was gang-raped during a date with Jinwoo while a freshman in college. Despite Jinwoo’s attempts to mend her physical and emotional injury, Soomi keeps falling into a path of self-destruction. As a third party joins them, the conflict deepens.
Rather than masculine violence or victimization of females, the film focuses its lens on vulnerability of the youth. Psychology of anxiety, uncertainty and insecurity symbolizes the crux of Kwak Ji-kyun’s movies and is what transcends this movie as an ode to youth. (LEE Sang-yong)
