Program Note
[Winter Wanderer] is director Kwak Ji-kyun’s debut film, a melodrama involving Minwoo, his old sweetheart Da-hye, and a prostitute, Eun-young. In absence of her lover, Da-hye comes to depend on Minwoo’s old friend, Hyuntae, while newly released Minwoo meets a single mom named Eun-young. With the periodic circumstances of the 1980’s as the basis, the movie delicately depicts lives of vulnerable souls with elegance, and became one of the emblematic films of the era. It won the Best Debut Feature Award at the Daejong Film Awards in 1986, and paved the road for its actors to become stars of the time as well. (LEE Sang-yong)
