Program Note
Four friends cruise the world′s most beautiful coral reef on their own yacht. But their boat capsizes leaving them stranded on an overturned hull and they swim to the closest land. Soon they are being stalked by a deadly fifteen foot great white shark. Since Jaws came out in 1975, there have been a number of shark films produced. A few of them did it good in box office, but many of them were flops big time. Two reasons; bad story or bad special effects. The Reef is neither. They shot the real shark and edited to make it look like a shark actually attacking people, and it works perfectly. What terrifies me the most is it explicitly shows the great white’s instinctive behavior and pattern when they attack their prey just like the ones you see in National Geographic. Moreover, it is based on true story, and I think it will make you afraid to step into the water when you go to beach for a while. I surely changed my vacation plan for this summer. (PAK Dosin)
