A tragic love story in Edo-period of Japan. Rai(Aoi Yu) lives in seclusion with her father in a forest of the Seta Mountains. She drives the villagers away by frightening them. Meanwhile, the 17th son of the Tokugawa Shogun Hidenari, Narimichi(Okada Masaki) is a troubled man suffering from the anger against his family. One day, he decides to have a day off for recreation in the Sera Mountains which is rumored to have a goblin. In thirst for true parental love, they instantly realize they are meant to fall in love with each other. The moment of healing each other riding horses on the field passed quickly. The burden of fate leads them into tragedy. Best known for his psycho-sexual dramas, Hiroki Ryuichi depicts his first epic beautifully, yet with some of his taste. Narimichi′s madness of swing a sword and Rai′s wretched crying are part of introspection as well as struggling against relationships falling or fallen apart. The struggle is as fancy as the cherry blossom tree hit by the lightning but still surprisingly blooming. (PARK Sungho)
