[Here Comes the Bride] is a romantic comedy directed by up-and-coming Filipino director Chris Martinez that exploits the ‘night before the wedding’ scenario, one of the classic subjects for this genre. Martinez adds body swapping to the otherwise typical wedding comedy story. Five people-the bribe-to-be (Stefanie), the rich lawyer and a friend of the bribe-to-be’s mother (Precy), the nanny (Medelyn), the makeup artist (Toffee) and the grandfather (Bien)-get into a car crash on their way to the wedding hall, and their souls end up in each other’s bodies. Once realizing their souls were transferred to each other, the struggle to gain back their bodies begins. Director Martinez set up this body swapping situation and carefully calculated and created detailed stories so as not to confuse the audience about who’s who. By using the body swap device, the director reveals underlying human desires that will give a sense of pleasure to the audience in addition to hilarious moments offered by the film. (KIM Ji-seok)
