This documentary film is about a Chinese girl’s transformation from a laundryman’s daughter to international celebrity, activist and artist in the face of racism and sexism. Anna May Wong (1905-1961) was a Chinese-American film and stage actress who claimed the international spotlight in the 1920s and ’30s. The film begins at her London boutique. Seasoned film and stage actress Doan Ly plays Anna and leads a narrative reconstructed from actual remarks by Anna, culled from letters and interviews.
