Program Note
Adam, the son of an American politician, raids his wife’s secret rendezvous with her Filipino lover. In a mad fury, he murders the steward who helped his wife and her lover escape and hides the body. As Filipino police start investigating, the murder case boils over into a political controversy. The title, on the surface, indicates the lover of Adam’s wife who invades the matrimony, while it also implies Adam’s powerful position in the Philippines as a western stranger. Director Eddie Romero questions the colonial history of the Philippines and its present identity through this triangle love affair.
