Loosely based on To’s landmark film [The Mission], [Exiled] tells a story of five friends who are at the end of each other’s guns. In Macau 1998, where every soul jumps at every chance to make quick money before the Portuguese colony ushers in a new era under Chinese rule, five conflicts between the cold order of organization and yesterday′s friendship treads on an extraordinary journey for the last time. With To’s extremely romanticizing touch, their sweat and blood draws a cinematic ecstasy upon its nostalgic canvas.

Johnnie TO

With a film career spanning over 25 years, Johnnie To is one of Hong Kong’s leading directors. Having achieved success with commercial films in the 80’s, To turned to more personal works in the mid-90s following the creation of his production company Milkyway Image. Election(2005) premiered in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival and won To his third Best Director Award at the 25th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2007, To′s Triangle was an Official Selection at the 60th Cannes Film Festival, and Mad Detective was in Competition at Venice. His other films include All About Ah-long(1989), The Mission(1999), Throw Down(2004), Exiled(2006), and Vengeance(2009).
