Program Note
Miike Takashi has remade the popular TV animation series of the 70’s into a film with leading actors Sakurai Sho, Fukuda Saki, Fukada Kyoko, and others. Gan, the only son of the Takada Toy Store, and his girlfriend Ai create a team to save the world with a gigantic dog robot Yatterwoof. They go on a quest to look for the legendary Skull Stone, and must compete against sexy ringleader Doronjo and the Dronbow gang who also wish to obtain the Skull Stone. At the request of Shoko, Gan and Ai also start to look for Professor Kaieda who disappeared while searching for the Skull Stone. As much as this film is a remake of an animated series, Director Miike Takashi puts his soul into making the characters cartoonish. The bad guys Doronjo, Boyacky and Tonzra are exceptionally portrayed. Also, the imagination behind the animation is realistically recreated through SF special effects, CG graphics, and fantastic set design.
