Program Note

This documentary reviews and summarizes the development of homosexuality as an issue in the past thirty years in China. We interviewed thirty prominent figures in the LGBT community, who have experienced the sea changes of views and lifestyles regarding homosexuality.

Director

CUI Zi′en

CUI Zi’en is a director, film scholar, screenwriter, producer, novelist and activist based in Beijing. His films have screened at many international film festivals including Vancouver, Rotterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong, Locarno, and Singapore. Cui has also published nine novels in China and Hong Kong, one of which, Uncle′s Past, won the 2001 Radio Literature Award in Germany.
