Program Note
Expecting a cozy night outside of the barracks, Seok-i visits his boyfriend Min-soo who is serving in the military. However, they run into Min-soo’s mother. When his mother questions their relationship, they can only answer that they are ‘just friends.’ Unexpectedly, they spend the night with Min-soo’s mother between them. It is a cheerful portrayal of coming-out through the refreshing love story of two young men.
Director
KIM JHO Gwang-soo
Kim Jho Kwang-soo, the CEO of Generation of Blue Films and the director of Korean Film Producers Association (KFPA), has been in charge of producing the quintessence of low-budget Korean movies. Beginning with [Jealousy Is My Middle Name] (2002, Park Chan-wook), [Wanee & Junah] (2001, Kim Yong-gyun), [Happy End] (1999, Jeong Ji-woo), and [No Regert] (2006, Lee Song Hee-il), are some fine examples. The 2002 New Currents Award winner made his debut at last year’s Pusan International Film Festival with [Boy Meets Boy] shown in Wide Angle. This year, he once again, comes with a short film, [Just Friends?“ and an omnibus, [Be with Me].
