Program Note
Under the Soviet regime with vibrant revolutionary spirits, Eva and her husband are dragged into the process of building a new era. Metaphorically depicting the chaotic era and history, this masterpiece casts Eva, a woman filled with moral strictness and a sense of duty, as a woman and mother who symbolizes Georgia. Invited to the Cannes Film Festival 1984, this elegant film intermittently features Berikaoba, a kind of masque performance, to move the story ahead. The director Lana Gogoberidze, daughter of Nutsa Gogoberidze, is known for her cinematic themes of women’s lives and destiny and struggling individuals. (KIM Young-woo)
