Inside examines the disgusting life of outsider Muharrem, who lives in a dark world full of contempt and harshness. After an awkward meeting with friends, Muharrem falls into a whirlwind of despairing anger and self-loathing that leads to violence and tragedy. Inspired by Dostoyevsky’s Notes from the Underground, the film’s title reflects the protagonist’s inner ontological conflict. As if representing Muharrem’s dark, obsessive psychology and shame, a cold and faded tone dominates the film. And his isolated state is highlighted through the way frames are used. As a result, the despair he feels when he is pushed into a dead end by the realization that he can never change reaches out with such intensity. (RHEE Soue-won)
