This legendary film is said to have moved everyone to tears when screened in 1965. The film’s print was found at an archive in Taiwan in 2013, which enabled the 1965 original film to be screened again in Korea this year. Yoon-bok keeps a diary while supporting his young siblings and dejected father. Finding his diary so moving, Yoon-bok’s teacher at school helps his diary be published as a book. When the book becomes a huge hit, Yoon-bok’s family finally sees a ray of hope. (NAM Dong-chul)

KIM Soo-yong
Born at Anseong city in 1929, Kim studied education at Seoul National University. Since his debut in 1958 with A Henpecked Husband, he established a prolific career with 110 films including Sorrow Even Up in Heaven(1965) and The Seaside Village(1965), which deal with social issues, along with Late Autumn(1981), one of his representative films, and earned reputation as the master of literary films. He also received many awards including the Best Director at Dae Jong Film Awards with The Foggy Town(1967).
