Program Note
The idea for the screenplay grew out of my realization that the individual leads a full-fledged existence so long as he has a connection with the past, which secures his path into the future. The worsening or loss of memory is a problem that the individual cannot solve?it destroys him... When we lose our memories we practically lose our connection with the world. ?Bakur Bakuradze As with his short film, Moscow, Bakuradze tells another story of disconnected people trying to fill voids in their existences with anything they can hold on to. When emotionally distant pickpocket Lesha Shultes sees video images of a woman he robbed, he finally makes a human connection that forces him into some radical decisions and confront his own past. In Bakuradze’s urban landscape defined by anonymity, destiny and identity become intertwined until Shultes’ search for self finally concludes.
