Program Note
More than ever, we are able to bear witness to all the horrible and wonderful events surrounding us on our own computers, in the safety of our own room. Robert is one such person. We are constantly being watched?or are potentially at risk of being under surveillance somewhere. Before the age of digital technology, the eye of God was merely an abstraction; now, a digital camera can be quietly tucked away in someone’s pocket, ready to shoot at the perfect moment and instantly be shared with he rest of the world. ?Antonio Campos In an attempt to promote healing at an elite boarding school, the death of two students captured on film by Robert is used in a memorial. But the images only create paranoia among both students and faculty. Campos’ film is a quiet study of the nature of observation and the potential revelations found within.
