Program Note
Cinta is an omnibus film that consists of love stories of 5 couples who either occupy the same space or affect the lives of one another directly although they don’t know each other. Through each story, the director approaches the subject of love from various points of view. The director starts the love stories with the emotion of love being born in the most unexpected moment, or the kindness of a stranger turning into love. Then the director throws the question of what one can do, how much one can sacrifice for love. If a loved one wishes to leave, must one understand and accept it to be able to say it is true love? He depicts an old man suffering from Alzheimer’s and an old woman who become close, emphasizing that age has nothing to do with love or companionship. Set in Kuala Lumpur, 5 independent episodes of 5 couples are filled with Malaysian movie stars, and the film serves as a compass for the position and direction of Malaysian commercial features.
