Yasmin Ahmad, one of the renowned women directors of Malaysia, describes in detail a girl’s sentiments being awakened to the emotion of a first love. Orked is a 14 year-old tomboy who flies kites and climbs trees with a 12 year-old boy named Mukhsin. Their friendship takes a turn as their innocent affection becomes romantic. It seems like an ideal relationship when the friendship between man and woman is developed into romance but the anxiety and conflict created in the process and the affliction caused by them is too much for the 14 year-old girl. The film has done great work in meticulously and densely describing the excitement and anticipation of a first love, which often passes by in life even before it is defined as a first love, in a time when the emotion of love is unfamiliar to them and its expression clumsy.
