Program Note
Swiss-born Italian resident Bruno Ledeux is a fortysomething man without a life or identity to cling to. He has been told he has a week to settle his outstanding bank debts, he fears for his job, and he just learned that he can never have children. Then he meets Luca, a much younger man clearly consumed by pain, guilt, and madness. The unlikely duo form a bond based on a tenuous but violent connection, one that winds down to a harsh conclusion. No Quality for Heroes is one part existential drama and one part meditation on male angst, wherein director/co-writer Paolo Franchi has created two characters with disparate yet equally agonizing circumstances and made them comprehensible, if not traditionally engaging.
