Writer and director Newton I. Aduaka turns the camera on the timely and tragic reality of child soldiering in his latest film, Ezra. Seven-year-old Ezra is kidnapped by rebel forces on his way to school on morning and transformed into a soldier. Years later, he is among the witnesses at a Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearing investigating a brutal assault on his home village. When his sister, Onitcha, is also called as a witness, the corruption, denial, and raw emotions surrounding the event turn the hearing into a trial. But in exposing the secrets and lies, the hearing also lays the groundwork for healing when the truth is exposed and embraced. With an excess of a quarter million child soldiers fighting across the globe, Ezra is powerful, harrowing, violent, and all too relevant.
Director

Newton I. ADUAKA
Newton Aduaka studied film history and art at the London International Film School. After directing several short films including Voices behind This Wall (1990), Carnival of Silence (1994), and the award-winning On the Edge (1997), he set up Granite Filmworks. His debut feature Rage (2000) was released to wide critical acclaim. He also directed commercials and Funeral (2002).
