Program Note
This PPP project of 2001 took 6 years to complete. Sita who sings at a Karaoke bar also works as a prostitute to send money to her daughter in her hometown. Looking for a new place to stay, she comes to rent a room at the house of Johan who runs a photo studio. She soon discovers that Johan doesn’t have much time to live and has three wishes before his death. To grant his wishes, Sita begins to learn photography from him and finally he takes a picture of himself through Sita’s hands. Nan Achnas meditates on the attitudes of facing death. When death nears, everybody has a desire to complete something and for Johan, it was to find a successor of his family business and to leave his image behind. Sita realizes the value of life watching Johan as he prepares for his death. Director Achnas wishes that the film’s audience learn the meaning of life through Johan’s last days just as Sita does.
