Chow Yun-Fat stars as a villain who rules the world of conspiracy and treachery. Set in China during 1920s, a notorious badit chief Zhang enters a remote town posing as its new mayor in hopes of sudden fortune. However, the local gentry Huang plots to steal power and gold by getting rid of the mayor. The conflict of good and evil has no place in this antagonism between characters who seek personal gains rather than honor and justice. These characters’ personal interests are the drive that advances the plot and make this complex story even more exciting.
