Program Note
Tomoko is an expert in natural fabric dyeing and has been involved in an affair for eight years with Shinko, a married writer. Shinko lives a double life spending half of the week with his family and the other half with Tomoko. One day, Ryota visits Tomoko. He used to be in relationship with Tomoko but broke up with her right before they planned to marry. He insists Tomoko has to leave Shinko and come back to him. Tomoko gets deeply drawn to Ryota while she still sticks to her old relationship with Shinko. What is going to happen to this unstable love triangle? Summer’s End sees the instability in love and relationship from the eyes of Tomoko. The characters’ internal conflicts are delicately projected to the visual contrast between the kimono, the Japanese traditional costume, and the modern clothing from the West. (KIM Byeongcheol)
