Program Note
Meryl is on the verge of losing her job if she doesn′t complete a project immediately. Nick has been diagnosed with cancer and has no idea what to expect. Andy′s girlfriend Anna is pregnant and gives him a few days to consider his options. Julia is in an accident that takes the life of her husband. Cathy is Andy′s estranges wife and Phil is Nick′s editor at his newspaper. One the hottest weekend of the year, and following a fatal train derailment, these seven people will have their lives intertwine and impact each other in way they can′t imagine. The idea for the film came to director Sarah Watt while she was riding a train, and wondered about her fellow passengers: their secrets, their hopes, fears, and about what universalities exist that bind us. Part live action and part animation, Watt′s hand-drawn cells are used to illustrate the characters′ internal lives and are beautifully rendered in the classical fashion before being transferred to a digital format. This is Watt′s, renowned for her animations, first feature.
