A Side B Side Seaside is a story about two girls who bid farewell to their own youth. Up against the same setting, the two girls′ story of how differently they spent their adolescence overlaps one another. One story is lead by a girl named Honey who is about to leave Hong Kong to attend university in Beijing. In order to have an unforgettable memory she could look back on, she goes on a trip with her boyfriend to a remote fishing village. There, she meets love for the first time but the encounter is too short. She leaves the place, leaving it in her memory forever. On the other hand, Baby returns home after spending a rough life in the city. She hopes to catch up on memories of her hometown with her longtime childhood friends. However, the long period of time has changed everything. The director of A Side B Side Seaside made his film debut as an independent film director after working as assistant director for a long time. The film realistically and plainly shows an ordinary story of ordinary people with a cast of unknown actors. It is one that accentuates the serious and prudent eyes of the director who tries to bring out a universal experience rather than dramatic rhetoric. (Kim Young-jin)
