Program Note
A bride steps on a mine just before crossing the border between Iraq and Iran. Her husband runs to fetch help while the terrified young woman stands there screaming. An old man accompanied with two youngsters heads for the border. He carries some drink for his grandchildren who couldn′t see for a long time. No matter how thirsty he won′t spare a drop of it. As bombs fall, an old lady takes her granddaughters to the border. She tells them the stories of happy brides in order to soothe their sobbing. A middle-aged man carries the dead body of his only son. The body slowly decomposes but he simply cannot bury him in foreign soil. He asks to his precious son to forgive for having dragged his body up the hills. The desperate travelers for Iran gather around the mine field that draws the border where the bride standing still on top of a mine. This is what daily life is like in Northern Iraq.
