Program Note
Presented in an unconventional narrative structure, this film has three parts: "Victory of the Will." "Reincarnation of Beauty." and "Killer Butterfly." In the first story Suk Yong-Bin′s suicide attempt is foiled by an itinerant bookseller. Suk murders the bookseller but the spirit refuses to die and continues its crusade to prevent Suk′s suicide. The second story involves the reincarnation of a beautiful woman reanimated from a skeleton found in a cave who must eat human liver to live. The third story deals with an archaeologist and his daughter. Suk is forced by the archaeologist to become involved with his daughter, which sets off a series of strange events. The film reveals that the strange occurrences were all in the imagination. The film illustrates Kim′s favorites subject: the power of the human will through grotesque imagery. (Lee Yong-Kwan)
