Program Note
From the observer`s point of view, this documentary describes the time that has elapsed between Korea and Japan, the road traveled by the people that have lived the history, and the encounter of the people from both countries trying to start a new phase. The sketches of four main characters are the catalysts that make us contemplate our way of living.
Director
KIM Duk-chul
Kim Duk-chul a graduate from the Department of Cinema at Nihon University began his life as a cinematographer. His repertoire includes films, and several features and documentaries, such as [Have You Seen the God in Naked Feet?] (1986), produced by Shohei Imamura, and [Resan, The Journey] (1987), produced and directed by British Filmmaker Peter Watkins. Kim was awarded the Kinema Junpo Award as well as Mainichi Movie Concours prize for his work [The River Reconcilliation] (1994), where he acted as both director and cinematographer. His 2006 film entitled [People Crossing The River] won the Pusan International Film Festival’s Woonpa Award for the most outstanding Korean documentary. Kim’s passion for uncovering facts and his motivation to impart understanding, act to drive this director to greater lengths.
